Chrysler was not a General during the Civil War. As Colonel of the 2 NY Veteran Cavalry he was breveted a Major-General on 3-13-65; this was an honorary recognition, based on meritorious service. After the war was over, he was commissioned Brigadier-General on November 11, 1865,then was mustered out of the service two months and three days after that commission.
