Isn't genealogy fun! Official sources... I have a source that states Mathias was not kia on Jul 22, but died later of wounds at Andersonville and buried there. We have to remember that earlier periods of our history records were often not as accurate as we would wish. Thanks for the references you offer, though.

Still wish to find out what the "medal of Gold" was or is??? Was it a State issued item or a national issued item. Was it a predecessor to the Medal of Honor???
