First, photographs of soldiers were not required by the military, they were a personal purchase. Most enlistedmen could not afford one. Officers, with their greater income, often did "get their likeness taken". I checked www.civilwardata.com , and they have only one photo of a 13th WI infantry soldier - not Bowerman. Military Images magazine, in their over 20 years of publication, has only printed one such image. I am not home, will look at the image in ten days.
You info on the soldier is incomplete. He enlisted 9-4-1861 as a 1st Sergeant, was promoted to 2nd Lt 10-28-61, and to 1st Lt 8-1-63. He resigned 9-30-64.
