Hello: I am searching for information about HENRY CLAIBORNE WEST b. 1836 in Christian County, KY; d. 1925 in KY I am his oldest living descendant. The Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky: Confederate Kentucky Volunteers, War 1861-1865, printed by the Authority of the Legislature of Kentucky, on pages 306 and 307 have Hency C. West listed as a Kentuckian who served with other Commands, C.S. Army (Private, served with the McDonald's Dragoons, Pillow's Escort). I have learned that Comapny "A" 11th (Holman's) TN Cavalrythat unit was under the command of Captain Charles McDonald and organized in Memphis in Jan 1862. It had originally been Company "K", 3rd TN Cavalry in Forrest's Old Regiment (according to Tennesseeans in the Civil War, Vol. 1, pg. 78), and was known as McDonald's Dragoons. This unit later became Company "A", 11 TN Cavalry Battalion (under Captain McDonald); became Company "B", McDonald's Battalion in Forrest's Regiment (J. G. Barber) and was paroled at Gainesville, AL in May 1865. Where should I call or write to receive a copy of his service record. Alll family records were inadvertently "lost" by a nephew of his some years ago. Kindest regards, Judith Ann Hughes Coolidge 295 Young Cove Road Franklin NC 28734-2490 (828) 524 7740 judyh@hughes.net Notify Administrator about this message?
