Re: Allen (Allin) Woodson Sr. Parents: Tucker and Judith (Allin?)of Pittsylvania Co. Va.
In the Pittsylvania Co. Probate Court, Book 17, p. 201-202,Recorded Dec. 4, 1810, there is the following record:
"Proved in court by two witnesses and ordered to be recorded:
John Woodson to Allin Woodson
Whereas Tucker Woodson, late of Pittsylvania Co., died intestate, seized and possessed of a tract of land lying in the county aforesaid on the head waters of Elk Horn creek, containing 120 acres, and that the said Tucker Woodson, late, dc'd had 8 lawful heirs of his body, to wit: Allin Woodson, Tucker Woodson, Murry Woodson, Drury Woodson, John Woodson, Jessey Woodson, Patsy[Martha] Allen, formerly Pasty Woodson, Sally [Sarah] Ellington formerly Sally Woodson, Polly [Mary] Hubbin, formerly Polly Woodson. That said Tucker Woodson in his lifetime alloted all to three of his sons, Allin, Tucker, and Murry Woodson their proportionable share, part of his land and estate by deed recorded by operation of law, the said John Woodson, his two brothers, Drury and Jessey and his three sisters will be entitled to equal proportion of the said land that for and in consideration of twenty pounds that the said John Woodson doeth grant, bargain, and sell to the said Allin Woodson all of his right title and interest and claims to the aforsaid land. Signed John (X) Woodson.

Judith must have died prior to this date since she is not mentioned in this probate document.

I think this is sufficient evidence that Tucker Woodson and Judith were the parents of Allen Woodson and this also gives a complete list of all of their children.

I think there is the strong possibilty that Judith's maiden name was Allin or Allen for the following reasons:

1. In "Historical Genealogy of the Woodsons and Their Connections" compiled and published by Henry Morton Woodson, Memphis, Tenn. 1915, p. 107, He states as follows:
"He [Allen Woodson] was given the name Allen in honor of his grandmother, Sarah Allen. This seems plausible, especially in view of the fact that his oldest grand children supplied the data pretaining to this family"

When I examined the entries for who these grandchildren possibly were that would have been living at the time he began researching his book (1905 stated in preface) until it went to the publisher in 1914, I came up with 4 of the children of William, son of Allen Sr., Achilles Allen Woodson (d. 1911), Judith Virginia (d. 1909) and william David and Charles Alexander, both still living in 1914.

I think that Henry Morton may have assumed it was Sarah Allen since she was the only Allen in-law of record who would fit in the right time line. Since we know that William's grand parents were Tucker Woodson and Judith (not known) the information only makes sense if they were referring to William's grandmother, Judith, not Allen Sr's grandmother who was Elizabeth Murry.

Secondly, The name "Drury" and "William" are not common names in the descendents of John "Tub" Woodson, but are common in the line of Robert "Potatoe Hole" Woodson (another reason, Allen may have mistakenly been assigned to the later in Henry Morton's book.) However these names are commonly found in the Allins or Allens who were present in the Pittsylvania area at the same time as the Woodsons.

The following Allins (Allens) and Tucker Woodson are found in Pittsylvania as follows:
1782 Land taxes: Abraham Allen, 240 acres, Wyth Allen, 180 acres, George Allen, 350 acres,William Allin Sr., 190 acres, Tucker Woodson 400 acres.

1782 Census: David Allen, George Allen, (William) Welcome Allen, William Allen Sr., Tucker Woodson.

There are several land and deed records that show Allens and Woodsons located in the same general area from as early as 1767 ( see Lunenburg CO -divided into Halifax CO. 1752, divided into Pittsylvania Co.1767, divided into Henry Co.1777)
