Hello K,

If you are a descendant of Rose Utter Labelle "Hello, Cousin!" Rose was a younger sister of my great-grandmother, Myrtle Utter Van Wert. The 1880 Lawrence Township, Tioga County PA census lists her as "Rosy B." a 2 year old daughter of Peter and Sarah Utter. Peter is the son of Ephraim and Sarah Utter and is listed as a 4 year old in Nelson Twp, Tioga County in 1860. Unfortunately, I have never been able to discover the maiden name of either Sarah. You will love the Tri-County website. I think it is one of the best on the web. I can spend hours there, looking at hotel pictures or reading diaries. More than any other website, it 'takes me back'.
Peter's obituary can be viewed on the Cameron County PA Rootsweb page. He died September 1899 in Liberty, McKean County PA of Typhoid fever. Both he and Sarah are buried in the Newton Cemetery, Shippen Township, Cameron County PA (near Emporium).
I have reached a dead end on this family line with Ephraim and Sarah. I'm not sure that the Ephraim/Sarah in the 1950 census is the same couple: the information doesn't seem to match. I have made 3 trips to Tioga County to look in Court records, and still can't seem to go any further back. Ephraim says (on the 1860 census) that he was born in Delaware, so maybe that is a clue. His wife Sarah was born in New York. I'm betting in Chemung County. I would like to get up there to Elmira and look at the marriage records for the 1875-76 time frame, as the railroad was such an important means of transportation then, and Elmira was just up the tracks. Many folks from Bradford and Tioga Counties were wed in Elmira. Please reply via this message board the first time. I would lve to learn all I can about Rose's children. Diane B.
