List of Tax Paying Inhabitants 1730-1783; Extracted from Ancient Burying-Grounds of the Town of Waterbury, Connecticut. Compiled & Edited by Katharine A. PRICHARD 1917
The Rate-Books from which these lists have been compiled were found in 1890 among the papers left by the late Judge John KINGSBURY. They give an almost complete record of the tax-payers of the town for fifty-four years, beginning in 1730. The missing books cover the years 1740, 1745, 1747, 1757, 1760, 1772, 1775, 1778, & 1782, nine in all. The first column of figures represents the ratable amount of each person in pounds and the second column the year in which the name first appears. A astrick following the date signifies that the person thus referred to paid taxes for that year only. The entire list for 1730 is to be found in The Town & City of Waterbury, Connecticut, Vol. 1, pages 303-309.
