Hi Sandi:
Between about 1970 and 1990, my father researched this group of people as well as many, many actual and suspected family and collateral lines. Dad and a number of others with whom he corresponded over the years and who did great work before computers, by what I call CCL's (courthouses, cemeteries and libraries), believed that our line, Joshua Pennell in Crawford Co. PA 1830, descended from Joshua and Hannah.

He/they were never able to "prove" it, yet they had strong evidence. Some of those earlier researchers (nearly all deceased now as far as I know) also had indications of a connection between the VA, PA and NC families named Pennell, however none of them ever could piece enough together. In the 1980's, Dad made 3 or more trips to NC to research and talk with Pennell family historians down there; no one has yet solved this. With computers and more info daily, perhaps someone will finally get the connection determined. My Dad helped many people fill in gaps, expand on their lines, know that someone did or didn't fit their line, and even provide info for others to write books and appear to be experts . . . So it is ironic Dad was stalled on our direct line. In the past 10 years, I've seen new genealogy enthusiasts asking some of the same questions that he and his associates asked, plus also some of the same information and misinformation found in his 20-30 year old notes is getting passed around. People seem to be still working on this.

Enjoy your search.
