I am seeking a few answers to a few unsolved mysteries about Milton C. Hatton or Milton C. Pennell. This gentlemen went by both of these names, so this gentleman is the same person. Milton C. Hatton was born on February 17, 1859 in North Carolina and died as Milton C. Pennell on February 1, 1958 in Burke County, North Carolina. He was 98 years old at the time of his death and just 16 days before his 99th. birthday. On Milton C. Pennell's death certificate it lists his father as unknown and his mother as Sarah Hatton. He was married twice and had children with both wives. His first wife was Mary E. Livingston and his second wife was Josie Gilbert. He had several children with both wives. Milton and his second wife, Josie Gilbert, are buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Burke County, North Carolina. There is also a Sarah Pennell buried at this cemetery too, so it is my belief that this Sarah Pennell is Milton's mother, Sarah Hatton Pennell. Also, one of Milton's daughters, Cora Bell Pennell Feimster and her husband, Walter Sherrill Feimster, are buried at this huge city cemetery too. Milton's first wife, Mary E. Livingston Hatton and two of their children are buried at Kings Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in the Kings Creek Township of Caldwell County, North Carolina. Now there were two other known Milton C. Pennell's who were born in North Carolina. One of them was Milton Columbus Pennell who was a son of Thomas E. Pennell, Sr. and Elizabeth "Betsy/Betty" Berry. The other one was Milton C. Pennell who was a son of William Pennell and Minerva Adaline Carlton. So as you can see they were several Milton Pennell's from North Carolina. There is possibly more. My question is to possibly find out who Milton's father or possibly father's were. It would appear that he was born with the Hatton surname but he changed his last name to the Pennell surname in later years. Milton's biological father could possibly be an unknown Pennell gentleman. I'm also guessing that the Sarah Pennell buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Burke County, North Carolina is possibly Milton's mother and that he gave her his Pennell surname when she died. These are just my own personal opinions and observations about this unsolved mystery. If anyone out there is interested in helping me out with this mystery, then please feel free to send me a personal e-mail to my e-mail address listed below. Thanks in advance for any and all help from anyone out there. If anyone is related to these families listed above, then please feel free to write to me. I have information on all of these Milton Pennell's as well as some pictures that may be of some interest to any of their living descendants.
