Hi Claire To explain it all, my maternal Gt. Grandmother Ann Charlotte Crew, had two older sisters who married two Pennell brothers, Rachel Sarah Crew b. 1834 at Chipping Barnet, Herts., married Richard W. Pennell b. 1833 Northfleet in Kent. Rachel and Richard emigrated to Canada (Ontario) in May 1871 together with another sister Eliza Jane who had married James Hone, they all first went to Sand Point then Carleton Place near Perth, they turned to farming eventually and got a Land Grant for Rutherglen in 1879, they all settled/lived in the Rutherglen/North Bay area. Richard and Rachel had nine children, Elizabeth, Richard William Job, George Matthew, Susan, Rachel Sarah, Frances Ann, Mary Ann, Eliza Jane & Alice Maria, the last two being born in Canada. Most of my Crew/Pennell/Hone/Bradfield's were Brickmakers before emigration. The Pennell's all came from Northfleet in Kent. Richard's older brother Charles Pennell b. 1831 married sister Susan Crew and they emigrated to Australia, together with her wid. brother William H. Crew. Another sister Maria Crew had married James E. Bradfield and they had also emigrated to Australia. I have more data for these Canadian Pennell's descendants so if you need any more, just ask. I haven't heard of any connections with Pennell's in Hamilton myself. Regards, Sandra |
