Thanks for your reply. However, what I was asking was whether there is any actual *evidence* that William Pace married Clare Pullen. IGI records, unfortunately, are not verified and are not evidence.

I think that the answer to my question is probably that there is no evidence of the marriage because it did not occur. It appears (see http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pace/1999-05/0927905011) that the idea may have originated in a Pace Society article, later acknowledged to be inaccurate in certain respects. I have not myself read the Pace Society article in question.

The name of the wife of William Pace (son of Thomas Pace d. 1795 Halifax Co) remains unknown. He may have been the William Pace who with wife Sisley sold land in Halifax Co in 1775. At any rate, there seems no evidence that he married Clare Pullen. I believe it was just someone's conjecture. However, thank you again for taking the trouble to reply.
