Hi Cindy,
I would love to have any information on the parentage (and on back as far as you have it) on Solomon and his brother, your William! The farthest back that I have been able to trace is Johan Wilhelm Litz(came over on the "Patience" on Sept. 9, 1751). Do you have any information on the family in Germany?
My grandaddy was named after his grandfather: French Solomon Litz. He never knew Solomon because he was killed in the Civil War, struck by lightning at the age of 45. I noticed that your William died early too (age 50). My grandaddy's family lived in a large log house that we are pretty sure that John William Litz, Jr. built in Rural Retreat, VA. Solomon was born there, and your William probably was born there, too. They were farmers, and French farmed the land until he married my grandmother in 1922 when she refused to be a farmer's wife, and they moved to town. French's unmarried sisters lived there and then eventually sold the farm.. The old log house is still standing (barely)...my mom took me to see it last summer. She used to visit her aunts when they lived there. What a shame that the house is now in ruins. James P. Litz (Solomon's son and French's dad) and James' mother, Polly Litz, donated land adjoining the Litz property for Fairview Methodist Church. There are many Litz relatives buried in the graveyard there-- the church dates from about 1889.
Other families that I am researching are: Steffey, Wampler, Myers, Flincham, Scott, Stanger, Chatwell, Baber, Thomas and Nye. If you are related to any of these, maybe we can compare notes! Let me know if I can help with any research you are doing. Your cousin, Sharon
