It's been quite a while since I looked at the Lashleys. I have not researched this family in depth, and my interest is primarily in trying to identify the origin of Barnabas Lashley (the elder, there was apparently a later Barnabas in Orange Co, NC probably descended from him), and also his possible connections to Moores. Two daughters of Barnabas Lashley, Nancy and Elizabeth, married sons of James Moore of Orange Co in the 1790's, and it is these Moores and their possible connection to one Sterling Moore, who lived nearby, that is my main focus.

Perhaps Peggy was also a daughter of Barnabas? I can tell you that Barnabas Lashley's land purchased by Thomas Whitted from Charles Christmas (Orange DB 13/259) on April 8, 1807, for 300 pounds, consisting of 111.5 acres, on Mount Willing Branch, Fayetteville Rd and University Road adoining Strudwick and James Thompson, Wit Joh H Pickard, Tho Howard, Jr., was very close to the land of Barnabas Lashley and also these Moores. It is very close to, and perhaps straddling the present Orange/Alamance County lines. The date would be around the time of the marriage between Peggy and Thomas Whitted.

Barnabas Lashley purchased a nearby tract Ref (Orange DB5/p30) on 27 Jul 1793 from Samuel Strudwick consisting of 200a in the Fork of Moccasin Branch adjoining James Moore. However, he may have been there MUCH earlier, as a majority of the sales from Strudwick involved a land controversy that was ongoing for many years prior to the sales by Strudwick.

Also nearby is land for a Thomas Lashley/Lapsley/Lapslie. Ref (Orange Co, NC DB4/374) from Samuel Strucwick to Thomas Lesley (Lashley?)for 140 acres adjoining John Rickets Sr. (perhaps John Pickard?) and James Moore for 200 pounds). The name of Thomas Lapslie occurs earlier in Orange Co. records, however I have not been able to find a link with Barnabas despite the proximity of their lands in the 1790's.

In Orange Co, records, a Joshua Whitted was bondsman for the marriage of Jacob Jeffries and Jane Moore on 5 Oct 1796 There is also the marriage of Rachel Dunlap to Evan Jeffries 24 Dec 1792 with John Lackey, bond. I am very interested in learning more about this couple. Do you know who Joshua Whitted was and/or whether related to Thomas Whitted who married Peggy Lashley?

I'm afraid my answer raises more questions than it answers for you. There are probably others on here who have studied the Lashleys more carefully than I have, since Lashley is only indirectly related to my Moores.

Do you find any Moore links among your Lashley or Whitted descendants?
