My grandmother was from Alpena - East Tawas area and her mother's maiden name was Kujawa - Anastasia Kujawa and she married Louis Wrobleski. Anastasia was 12 and Louis 16 when they emigrated to the United States and met here. They both came from a village considered part of Berlin's post-office are (according to my grandfather about 20 years ago), but did not know one another until they met in Michigan. They were Polish/German. I would love to hear from you if you found out any more information. My grandmother was Anastasia and Louis' 11th and last child and Louis (her father) died a couple months before she was born. Anastasia moved to Detroit sometime after that and eventually ran a boarding house, but I don't know when she left Alpena. My grandmother was Lois and some of her siblings' names that I can remember are: Vicky, Celia, Louis, Henry (Hank), Helen, Mary, Francis and Leo. Anastasia remarried a man with the last name of Cole in Detroit and some of children took his last name. Lois married Gerald Wenclas Leeman and they had 3 children, the middle child my father, Thomas Bruce. My father did tell me once that one of Lois' brothers had one of the largest junk yards in Michigan on the east side of Detroit and became very successful with his endeavors. Lois died in 1970 when I was 15 at the age of 62 in Dearborn, Michigan. |
