Thomas -- glad to see your posting. I desc. from Hugh Cairo Cain, Sr. (b. 1756 Co. Derry, Ire.-- d. 21 Aug 1851, Hawkins Co., TN) Do you know any source to prove the dates above such as a tombstone? I don't have any source recorded for it. My line is through his daughter Margaret Cain, b. 13 Jun 1803, Hawkins Co. mar. [1st] 10 Sep 1818 Robert Brittain in Roane Co., TN. Robert Brittain was the son of William Brittain & Fanny King. I desc. from Robert & Margaret's son Joseph C. Brittain. Margaret had 6 child. by Robert Brittain & was widowed at age 36 when she mar. [2nd] Ezekiel Alexander. Margaret & Ezekial removed to Webster Co., MO where she d. 6 Oct 1861, bur. St. Lukes Cem. Other child. that I have for Hugh Cairo Cain, Sr.: Gray(Gayce) m.---Boykin; Mary m. John Shannon; Senoe m. Elijah Russell; Thomas (infirm); Hugh Cairo, Jr. m. Lucinda Holston; & then my Margaret m. Robert Brittain. I am glad to learn of the wife Eleanor Carter as I see the Eleanor name carried down. Any clues to her parents? Do you have any idea where the Cairo middle name came from? I have read that it could be Italian/French. Also, as to the murder of Hugh Cairo Cain, Jr., I have that he was too old to serve in the Civil War & that he was killed by a neighbor boy who was a Fed. soldier, although Cain was a strong Union man. One more question -- where did Hugh Cairo Cain, Sr. first settle? I have seen Rockingham Co., VA & also PA. I'm familiar with the Watauga Settlement but a little rusty on the details.
