Cathy, My husband is a direct descendant of the John and Edith Cabaniss that you have requested information about. Not much is known about Edith, but John's ancestors are very well documented. He is a direct descendent of an Henri Cabaniss that came from France as one of the French Hugenauts seeking religious and other freedoms. My husband is descended from the brother of your ancestor, a Cornelius A. Cabaniss that married a Sarah Elizabeth Rush. We live in Hopewell, Virginia, which is very close to the general area where this family lived. You will find places listed like Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Namozine, Petersburg, etc... all in Virginia. Many of these were actually the same pieces of property, but the names changed due to the changing county/city bounderies as new counties were formed from old ones. This is an old post, so I don't know if you still need any of this information or not. You can get back with me at my email allparkers@verizon.net. if you'd like. Therese |
