My cousin, Duncan Beaton of Dartmouth, NS., provided me with a passenger list of the ship "Malory" which landed in Margaree in 1830. The leader of the group of immigrants was Alexander Beaton, wife Mary, children Ann, Ket (Kate), Donald, Isobel, and John. Samuel Beaton (Alexander's son) with wife Ket, and children Mary and Donald. There were five other Beaton families, including John with wife Margaret and Mary, John ( my ggg-grandfather) a widower with five children, his son Malcolm with wife Mary, William with wife Mary and three children, and Donald with wife Janet and son. I understand that the Catholic Scots tended to settle in the Mabou area, whereas the Protestant Scots settled inland in Skye Glen, Whycocomagh, and south of Lake Ainslee. At this time I cannot verify this information, but it may help you. Hugh Beaton, Honolulu |
