This is not my direct line, but I am trying to sort out the Russell and Barbour Co. Adams.

In the 1850 census in Division 25, Barbour Co. AL
Thompson T Adams 42 GA
Mary 36 GA
Sarah 13 GA
John 11 AL
Thomas 9 AL
William 7 AL
Mary 5 AL
Susan 2 AL

In the 1860 census in Beat 5, Barbour Co.,AL
Thompson T Adams 48 GA
Frances 42 GA
Thomas D 21 GA
William S 19 GA
James M 18 GA
Ann E 16 GA
Alex A 11 AL
John H 10 AL
Martha F 8 AL
Thompson F 7 AL
Robert S 3 AL
Samuel 76 VA
Martha 62 KY

I know who the 1860 family is. I know that Samuel and Martha came from Elbert Co GA with some of thier children to Russell Co, AL. I am pretty sure that Thompson Adams married Frances Witherspoon in 1829.

What I am trying to figure out is who are the people in the 1850 census. Is it the same family?
Are Mary and Frances one is the same or did Thompson T remarry? I don't see how that is possible since he supposedly married Frances in 1829 and he would have been the first wife.

The sons William and Thomas could be the same in each census family although they each aged 12 years while the father only aged 6 years and the mother changed names. I know that census ages are all over the place, so I don't put much stock in them.

It is the next couple of children that confuse me.
Did Mary, age 5 become James M, age 18?
Are Susuan and Anne E the same person?

Or are these two different families?

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks
Al Adams
