This may not be your James Caldwell, however, St. Clair county is next to Calhoun County, AL.

Estate of James Caldwell, deceased
Martha, Virgil & Carrol Steel, minor children of James Steel, and heirs of the estate of James Caldwell decd.
July 21 1867. This day came William J. Ingram a resident of this county, and petitioned this court praying that he may be appointed guardian of the property of said minors. And it being shown to the satisfaction of the Court that said minors are under fourteen years of age, that they reside with their father James Steel in this county and have no guardian in this state, that they jointly have an estate in their own right of one hundred and fifty dollars, and that it is necessary that some person should be appointed guardian of said estate. The said James Steel the father of said minors being now in open court requesting the court to appoint said Ingram guardian of his said minor children and the said William J. Ingram being given the necessary bond with William Cox & William S. Beason as his securities therein, with the proper condition thereunto written in all respects as required by law, which bond has been duly taken and approved by this Judge of this Court and the said Ingram having otherwise complied with this law, It is ordered adjudged and avowed that said William J Ingram be and he is hereby appointed to be the guardian of the property & estate of said minors, within this state, and authorized to hold manage and account for the same, as such guardian under and in pursuance of the laws of this state.
