Hi
The surname Cain(e)s is fairly common in the parish of Bitton, east of Bristol. My G-grandmother Esther Iles (nee Cains) was born 1853 daur of Alexander Cains. Alexander was bapt 1815 son of Thomas & Elizabeth Cains. There was an infamous gang of highwaymen in the area and the ringleaders were a Caines family. In 17th/18th century records corruptions of the name are Kaynes and Keynes. There is a small town nearby called Keynsham (pronounced "Cane - sham"). Some of the Caines gang were hanged and transported.
