Is their anyone out there who can help me? I'm trying to find any information on my g.grandmother Gertrude Nellie/Louisa Caines.
All I know is that she was born abt 1897 in what was Barton Regis. Her family were from Barton Hill. She married my g.grandfather Arthur Spiller in 1921 in Bristol. They then moved into 17, Louisa St, St Philips.
It appears that Gertrude cut contact with her family after she married Arthur. (He was from the Dings area of Bristol).
They went on to have 7 children - Arthur George, George Arthur. (Twins. George Arthur died at birth). Doris, Ruby (my gran), Raymond, Gladys and Kenneth. (Both died in early childhood).
What we do know is that Gertrude died in mysterious circumstances. Newspaper reports suggest it was peritonitis. After she died, Arthur refused to put the children into a home, and brought the children up alone, with little or no help from his family. Needless to say he spoke very little about his family.
If there is anybody out there who has any information on either Gertrude or the Caines family of Barton Hill, it would be greatly appreciated.
