Fred, I take it that you don't know which Irish county your Cain family came from. There were several different O'Cathain clans. This name became anglicised as Cain, Kane & Keane. Your Y-DNA will have changed very little from that of your ancestor John Cain. A Y-DNA test will very likely match you to one of the known O'Cathain (Cain) clans. The most well-known are the Kanes of Ulster but there were others with their own distinctive DNA. The Cain DNA project at www.familytreedba.com has identified the others, and their home location in Ireland.
