I have a h/w letter from Allen Cabaniss dated 11/4/1982 (to my cousin Harvey McIntyre) forwarding some h/w notes of the Cabaniss line which state that John Cabaniss and Elizabeth Longmire were married and give the dates of birth of their children including my ancestor George L. ("Longmire?") Cabaniss. The children appear to have been born in VA but many, including the parents migrated to KY. This genealogy is at odds with what Allen wrote in his earlier book, I believe. George L. ultimately moved to Illinois just before the start of the war between the states but his children (I've read somewhere) including my g-g-grandfather Edwin Wing Cabaniss, moved to Mississippi.
