Seeking parents of William 'Bill' Henry Crawford Brooks, born Apri 25, 1838, Oglethorp County, Georgia. Died Jun 22, 1914, San Saba County, Texas. He married Martha A. Simmons NOv 14, 1861, Collin County, Texas. She was born Feb 24, 1844, Attala county, Miss. Died Apr 2, 1931 Tom Green County, Texas. William Brooks was a half brother to my gr grandfather, Joseph McDuffy Criswell.
Mary Jane Criswell married Samuel Ashley in 1839 in Madison Co., Georgia. On the 1840 Census of Madison Co., Georgia, Samuel S. Ashley is possibly living next door to a Matthew Brooks, perhaps the husband of Ann Criswell. I cannot find a marriage for Ann Criswell to any Brooks. This may have taken place in South Carolina. In November of 1841, a document in the courthouse in Madison County, Georgia stated that 'Ann Brooks, alias Ann Criswell..." She is living with Samuel Ashley at the time, whom she married. Samuel married two Criswell girls.
