Hi Pam,
I don't know. Four groups of Indians resided in the area of Fort Toulouse. The Chickasaw and Cherokee sided with the English, while the Choctaw and Creek were allied with the French. The fort was established in July of 1717, to protect their Gulf possessions. It is stated the that "Due to the lack of women in the providence at this time, several of these men (from the fort) married Indian maidens". There is no records of Simon parents. His father could have been in that area around 1700 and marry a Choctaw maiden. Who knows?? Simons name was in the census of 1721. I haven't read the whole book, but what I read I don't recall any Brignac-Indian connection. There were many settler-Indian battle along the Miss. River, in the 1700's and early 1800's.
I sure the French Settlement Library has a copy.
Mike
