1805, July 8 - Jean Baptiste Boutte' (1757-1823) and Louis Hilaire Boutte' (1754-1808) were two brothers that purchased the Island of Barataria Island from Sieur Pierre LaVigne. Jean Baptiste Boutte' purchased the northern half, and Louis Hilaire purchased the southern half. Their nephew, Francois "Zenon" Boutte' (1785-1863), who was the son of another brother, Antoine Boutte' (1755-1808), was a lieutenant of Jean Lafitte.
On January 23, 1809, Zenon married Marie Aspasie Decuir in St. Martinville, La. A child was born and died on October 1, 1809 in St. Martin Parish.
A second child , Lucien, was born on October 30, 1810 in St. Martin Parish. Marie Aspasie died on April 5, 1811, leaving Zenon with, as far as I know, one son, Lucien, who was then one year old.
In December, 1814, Zenon was in Dubuclet's Troop of Hussars at the Battle of New Orleans, as a corporal. This unit served as messengers and information gatherers for Andrew Jackson, and can be found stationed next to Jackson's headquarters in the deMacarty house. They were referred to as the "Attakapas Dragoons." Could Zenon have met Lafitte at this time?
Lucien, Zenon's only son, died in 1817 at age 6 0r 7. One can only speculate how devastating this was to Zenon.
Somewhere along the line, according to historian and genealogist Sidney Louis Villere', a direct descendant of Governor Jacques Philippe Villere', who was also the owner of the Villere Plantation on the Battle of New Orleans battlefield, (and who also told Andrew Jackson at one point that he knew Lafitte well) Zenon became a lieutenant of Lafitte.
On July 5,1819, Francois Zenon Boutte' acquired by purchase Louis Hilaire Boutte's (his uncle) southern half of Barataria Island from his uncle's estate. Francois Zenon Boutte' later sold most of his holdings, with the exception of 400 acres, which was to be contested in later years by the Boutte Heirs. (per Sidney Louis Villere notes on the Boutte' family).
On September 9, 1863, Zenon Boutte' died, leaving no heirs that I know of.
