Matthew, I just realized you are refering to a possible marriage between Ralph II's son William and a sister of Richard de Clare. Even given this permutation on the theory of a marriage between Ralph II and Isabel/Elizabeth de Bellomont/de Clare, I believe the time line makes this connection unlikely given the date of the charter in question. Even Dr. Crouch dates the charter to between 1168 and 1189...see quote from email exchange as follows: "Date: 3/20/2007 7:26:49 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: D.Cro...@hull.ac.uk Reply To: To: Kar...@aol.com Karen, Apologies, I misquoted the source. The charter is by <Willelmus Bloet frater comitis Ricardi> by which he grants to Warin de Basevilla 100 shillings worth of land in Hecham and La Wike (Higham on the Hill, Leics, by my identification - Heacham, co Norf, was not a member of the honor of Leicester) half of the ten pounds worth of land given William by Earl Robert II of Leicester, this for =EF=BF=BD knight's fee. = The grant is executed in the court of Robert III of Leicester as is clear from the witness list. It must date between 1168 and 1189. David" Given the possible date for the charter and the fact that it was executed at the court of Robert of Liecester, I think the likelihood of it involving a de Clare daughter very unlikely, but a Liecester female and a Bloet male connection would make the location more plausible in my opinion...your thoughts are of course always welcome and looked forward to. Cheers, Karen Repko Notify Administrator about this message?
