Hi Bonnie,
First, look in the 1880 census of Madison Co, AR, if you haven't already. Copy the names and ages of everyone. Also any data, remarks, other information. Also check who is living in their neighborhood. People in those days had a way of living next door to parents, or brothers, or cousins, or some relative, or close friend. If you're really lucky, Grandma may be living with them. Check to see where they, AND their parents were born. Also check the 1870 census, which doesn't have as much information.

Next, Check the land records of Madison County. See if Fritts owned land (any Fritts) and where it was, who the land bordered upon.

Do you have any idea who Mary Ann's parents were? Have you found death certificates for her and hubby? or children? Do you have a list of their children? That often offers a clue, because people in those days tended to name children for parents, grandparents, in-laws, etc.

Do you have any sense that Mary Ann may have been from the Brashear family? Four Brashear brothers from Perry Co, KY, moved to Madison Co, AR, after the Civil War (though not all at the same time). One of their descendants operated a mortuary in Huntsville for many years. I think it's still there and still in the family. Other Brashear and Beshear families, however, also moved to Arkansas.

I'll look when I get a chance and see if I have any Mary Ann's and maybe if one of them married a Fritts.
