Hi Linda, et al. The family in that south central part of Kentucky is still unraveling. Can anyone straighten me out on Elijah's 2nd cousins? Who would their parents have been? Possibly a brother to Robert Brashears, who m. Elizabeth Whitten? Here is some data: _______ Brashears/Beshears; m. Patty _______ , a.1x. Elizabeth C. Beshears, b. June 1830; m. Caswell Mills, a.2x. James Anderson Beshears, b. 23 Oct 1835, IN, d. 27 Sep 1883; m.1. Mary Francis Green, (no record of children); m.2. 11 Mar 1863 in Daviess Co, MO (a notation says he lived in Grundy Co, MO at the time), Millie Frances Roberts, b. 25 Apr 1843, MO, d. 5 Aug 1899, from Dolly (Baker) Mills, 949 S. R. 77, Clovis, NM 88101 505-762-7807 jmills@3lefties.com Elizabeth C. Beshears, (d/o ______ Beshears and Patty ______), b. June 1830 (just past 15 at time of marriage), d. Nov-Dec, c1902, possibly Yell Co, AR; m. 10 Oct 1845, probably Clay Co, TN, Caswell Mills, b. 1828, d. 3 May 1895, ▸ Caswell and Elizabeth (Beshears) Mills were in Green County, IL, in 1850. (US Census); ▸ in 1860, in Harrison County, MO., (US Census); ▸ in 1870, in Douglas Co, MO, (US Census and land records); ▸ in 1880 in Cedar Co, MO, (US Census); ▸ between 1880-1889, in Dade CO, MO, when they left and went into Hopkins Co, TX, where Caswell died 3 May, 1895. (Civil War Pension Records). ▸ In 1902, Elizabeth was in Yell County, Arkansas. On 27 May 1902, Elizabeth C. Mills applied for a pension on her deceased husband's Civil War service. Elizabeth received a pension and died in Nov or Dec, 1902, probably in Arkansas. Her deposition contained these facts: her middle initial was "C" which we hadn't known. ▸ Elizabeth names one brother, James A. Beshears and his wife Milley Francis. All her brothers are dead, she says, and she has no sisters. ▸ She remembers two second cousins, William and Anderson Beshears, of Madisonville. (I heard from Linda M. Seevers whose ggggrandfather, Elijah Beshears, was a brother to William and Anderson. In addition there was a sister Pauline and other brothers James W. and Jackson. These were the children of Robert and Elizabeth (Whitton) Beshears.) If these were second cousins of Elizabeth, it seems reasonable to me that Elizabeth C. (Beshears) Mills and Robert Brashears would have been cousins. At that time, I am not certain that they were cousins "once removed" in counting the generations as we do today. ▸ Elizabeth and Caswell ran away and were married somewhere in northern Tennessee, could be Clay County. He was just past 17 and she was 15 as of June, before their marriage on 10 Oct. 1845. She said Caswell lived in Cumberland County, KY, near Albany. (Albany is now in Clinton County, KY), but not far from the line. ▸ She mentions that she lived in Garrard County, KY, near what was then known as Old Town. ▸ She also said she and her mother Patty Beshears were visiting cousins in Cumberland County when she met Caswell. The cousins names, as far as I could make out from the writing, you know what trying to read old documents is like, were J---Asbury, Lindsey Asbury and another name I could not decipher. ▸ Elizabeth said "Our home was near Illinois, Sharpsburg, or Madisonville, Garrard Co., KY. I was raised there". She also mentions knowing some folks in Mt. Sterling, KY. ▸ Elizabeth mentions "Tom Kenndey my uncle Jim Fletcher near Madisonville or Sharpsburg" (no punctuation, so which one is her uncle??) She knew these folks. JAMES ANDERSON BESHEARS and MILLIE FRANCIS ROBERTS a.x. James Anderson Beshears, b. 23 Oct 1835, IN, d. 27 Sep 1883; m.1.
