Here are some snippits from the future vol 9 of A BRASHEARS FAMILY HISTORY: You'll note that I have very little on the two men of your family that moved to California, Numbers v22904 and v22913. Please send me additional data. I would suspect that the "Uncle Dugan" you grandmother visited were from her side of the family. Do you know her maiden name? Have you looked for that name in the 1880 and 1900 censuses of Green Co, MO? Good hunting! v2-67. Benjamin Brashears (possibly s/o v2-32, Robert Brashears ?and Patsy Wilson), b. c1790-93 in Virginia (60 in 1850; 67 in 1860); lived in KY at least from 1822 to 1835, when his children were born; moved bef 1840 census to Greene Co, MO, d. c1869, Greene Co, MO; m. Jane ______, b. c1798, NC. Considering his birthplace and movements, I think this Benjamin Brashears may be a grandson of Philip Brashears Sr and Ann Wilson, of Henry Co, VA, probably a son of v2-32, Robert Brashears, b. c1759, ?and Patsy Wilson. Lacking documenta- tion, that’s the way I’m going to number him and his family. The first record we have of Benjamin shows he was granted 50 acres of land on Spring Creek in Cumberland Co, KY, in 1824 (Kentucky Land Warrants, Book Q, p.440, surveyed 23 Dec 1824; thanks to Ron Fowler for a copy). Descendants say he was already married by that time and had two children. By 1837, the family had grown to nine and had relocated to Greene Co, MO, just southeast of Springfield. Benj. Brasheers was on the Tax Assessor's list of Greene Co, MO, 1843: taxed for 2 horses, $90; 5 cattle, $83; 1 timepiece, $25; 1 Jack & mule, $30; total $228. Benjamin and Jane are in the 1850 census of Greene Co, with six of their nine children. By 1860, Jane was apparently dead, and only one of the children, Lewis, was still at home. Letters of administration: Bond was given on 1 Oct 1869 by G.M. [Gabriel M.] Freeman, principal (i.e. an heir) and administrator, with J.W. Leather and L.J. Freeman, securities, in the amt of $1,200, in the estate of Benjamin Brashears, deceased (Will Book A, p.553, Greene Co, MO, Probate Records; thanks to Dodie Haight for a Xerox copy.) 1840 Census, Greene Co, MO: Benj.
