Hi Debbie, I don't know who Robert was. I agree with you that the age-difference is large, but not impossible. Robert would be 55 and Sarah A. 43 when William was born. So William _could be_ a change-of-life baby, or the offspring of a second, late marriage of Robert and Sarah, or possibly just the last child in a long list. OR William could well be a grandson. You need more data. Unfortunately, Georgia was not especially good at keeping records in the old days. I presume you've tried all the available marriage records, to see if Robert and Sarah married, say, about 1834, the year before William was born I preseme you've also dearched death records at the County clerk's office, and obituaries in local newspapers. Sometimes old local histories carry articles on old-timers. I don't think I have any more data than you sent me in 2000, but here are a couple of "cousins" you might try contacting. They may have more: Kim Beshears Bates <keltbate@bellsouth.net> And the following one makes reference to your William M. Brashear, as a possible cousin of some other folk. Chase down the other folk and you may find something about yours. From: "Kimberly Anne" <luderbug@bellsouth.net> To: "Charles Brashear" <brashear@mail.sdsu.edu> Subject: Beshears Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2004 10:32:43 -0600 Here is Kim's "stack of ancestors." Some of them overlap with yours. 1. James Beshears, b. SC, c181_?, d. 4 April 1900, Whitfield Co, GA; m. Elizabeth Raper, b. 1818, Macon Co, NC, d. 11 Sept 1900. (Listed on death certificate of William M. Beshears) 2a. William M. Beshears, (Kimberly Anne: “death certificate is hard to read..I think it says either Manson or Munson”), b. 26 July 1859 in Cherokee Co, NC; d. 29 Oct 1938, in Varnell, Whitfield Co, GA; m. Cordellia Holder, b. 4 May 1861, unknown; d. 4 Feb 1942 in Varnell, Whitfield Co., GA. On his headstone the last name is spelled Beshers (without the "a"). William M. changed his name to Thomas William Beshears after he killed a man in Whitfield Co, GA. It was a neighbor, but am unclear about the circumstances. Grandfather said the family lore is that James ran a grist mill during the civil war, and that he was once attacked by a band of guerillas in the woods...James brother in laws went after them and captured the guerillas and cut off their ears, and hence brought James home 9 sets of ears in their pockets to show that they had their revenge. What a gift, huh? Well, whether that is true or not we'll never know! 2b. The only other piece of information that I have about him is that there is a William Henry Beshears in the area about the same time as James and they are close in age. This William Henry married Althea Cecerine Smith. I'm wondering if maybe they are brothers/cousins? 3. James Lafayette Beshears, b. 1882, unknown; d. 1951 in Varnell, Whitfield Co., GA; m. Mattie Bledsoe, b. 20 Apr 1879 in TN; d. Apr 1973 in Cleveland, Bradley Co, TN. 4. William Anderson Beshears (“this is my grandfather” says "Kimberly Anne" <luderbug@bellsouth.net> ,) b. 16 March 1903; d. 3 May 1983. He was born in Varnell, Whitfield Co, GA. 5. _______ Beshears, 6. Kimberly Anne Beshears, m. _______ Thorne From: "Kimberly Anne" <luderbug@bellsouth.net> To: "Charles Brashear" <brashear@mail.sdsu.edu> Subject: Beshears Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2004 10:32:43 -0600 Cheers, and good hunting, Charles Brashear Notify Administrator about this message?
