Thank you for the reply, Stanley. I have both of the Fountain Run books, and in the second book 'Drumbeat', the wife of Thomas Caruth is given as Martha Elizabeth Austin. I think her name was actually Edy (Edith?) Austin. I'm looking for definitive proof of this fact. In the 1850 census, Thomas' wife is just listed as 'E. Caruth', and in records for the Caruth cemetery, there is an Edy Caruth buried there. Her headstone reads 'Edy Caruth died June 5, 1858 aged 63, d/o C. L. & Permily Austin, b: Wake Co. N.C.' I have a marriage record for Thomas Caruth marrying his second wife Phereba Poe on Aug. 11, 1859 in Allen County. So, does this make Edy the wife of Thomas Caruth and not Martha Elizabeth?
