I am also a part of this family of Astins. George is my ggggrandfather. I have some information on him. He was in the Civil War, and married Laura Johnson soon after the war. They had a daughter and William Astin, b 1868. George died soon afterwards, and is buried at Lower Salem Cemetary in Massac County, Illinois. Laura remarried a few years later to a Minter, and had other children. Some of them are also buried, in unmarked graves, next to George.

Laura is the daughter of Thomas and Lavina Johnson.

Walter Astin is George's father, I believe. I found a Walter, Rutha, and George Astin in the 1850 or 1860 census living in or around the Joppa, Illinois area. However it is spelt Aston.

In the civil war data, they spell George's name as George Austin. and I have found George and Laura in a census (1870 I believe) and they are named Egilston.

Hope this helps. If you need anymore information, just email me and I will see what I can do.

Also, which family are you? My grandmother is Martha Astin. Her father was Roland Astin, who was William Astin's son.
