I have two references for the definition of Arellanes (and I'm not sure either what is the actual reference to our ancestors): 1)From the book "El Dorado; or, Adventures in the Path of Empire: comprising of a voyage to California" by Bayard Taylor(1861): p.330 "Among the fruits I noticed a plump green berry, with a taste like a strawberry and gooseberry combined; they were called by the natives, arellanes."; and 2)From "The New World Spanish/English Dictionary": arrellanarse - to lounge; loll; sprawl.
My Mother is an Arellanes by birth, but she, nor her relatives, were aware of the actual translation. Hope this helps.
