Well, I'm an Arellanes in Santa Barbara. I don't know if I can help. Its actually my Mother who has done all the research. My father is Charles, he has/had 6 brothers and sister, most of which have 2-6 children each. As the family legend goes...our family came from Spain with Cortez. The name might have been spelled a little differently then, maybe with an "O". An Arellanes married one of Cortez' children. The family bred and married with anyone in its path. Helped found Pueblo, Mexico...then when the King of Spain wanted to keep California from the Russians, we migrated and were one of the founding families of Santa Barbara. My ancestor was a tailor and a soldier. I know the Arellanes family had a land grant from the King of Spain. I know we were known as Equestrians up until my "Tio" (my father's Uncle) passed away in the 70's. My parents are part of the Los Descendantes, a local descendants group of founding families. The best place to do research is either up at the old Mission, or at the Historical Society Museum. I don't know if that helps, but I thought I'd put my two cents in!
