Page 443: "Jonathan Allison was born in Maryland, June 14, 1777, brought to Hancock County locality in Grant District in about 1780 by his father James Allison, who was of English extraction. He later settled upon land owned by Jonathan Allison, Jr. His first improvement was the erection of a round log house, 18 x 20, in which he lived for a number of years and reared a family of children, all of whom are dead. Our subject was married to Sarah Harmon, a lady of German descent. Their union resulted in eleven children, Charles, Samuel, James, Ross, Nancy, Sarah, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Mary, Daniel and Christina. Soon after the marriage of Jonathan, Jr., He settled upon the old home farm, remaining there engaged in tilling the ground until his death which occurred June 3, 1873, age ninety-six years. He served in the War of 1812. Filled the office of sheriff for several. years. Served as constable for about thirty years."

The Abner listed above was listed as being 1769 to 1827. I think their son Abner lived from 1772 until after 1840. I think the one on your list is another Abner who is Pres. McKinley's grandfather. If you have been following Jan Motte's and my discussion about him, you can see how confusing it is. My single source, however, is Thomas B. Gotham. James' and Nancy's son, Charles, 1770-1848 is correct. Thomas is abt. 1783-1874, so that is OK. Jonathan Jackson Allison was born 14 Jun 1777 in MD, and died 3 Jan 1872 in Hancock Co., WV, and was buried in Pughtown, Hancock, WV.(25)
