Frank, Thank you for responding. As I said earlier, I am descended from Robert Adams who was born about 1680 and died 1740 in Goochland County, VA. There are three theories about were Robert of Goochland came from. There was a Robert Adams who was a Burgess in VA in 1623. The family lore is that Robert of Goochland was his grandson. It is possible, but unlikely. More possible that he was a greatgrandson. I still say unlikely. Another theory, and the one that I currently subscribe to, is that the family of Robert Adams came from Monymusk. Two daughters of Robert of Goochland married brothers named Moorman. In a book about that family, there is a footnote that states that: "The Adams family farmed 'Arnedlie' in Monymusk from before the time of the Poll Book until they gave up the holding. In 1677 the last of the line lived at 39-41 High St., Inverurie, the sons having gone to Virginia. In 1685, John and William Adams still had seats in the '1st Piew' of the Monymusk church. James Adams, a bachelor was in 1700 school teacher in Bethelny" I have contacted persons in Monymusk and they tell me that Arnedlie is still in existance just outside Monymusk. I'm not sure why anyone would have made that note with so much detail unless there was some truth to it. I have participated in the Adams DNA project. There are currently 5 of us who match and who know by paper trail that we descend from Robert of Goochland. We now need to find a European Adams who matches us. I hope to find someone in Monymusk who would be willing to be tested. I look forward to hearing more about your Monymusk visit.
