Abercrombie Family Genealogy Forum

A "common thread" that appears often in researching the ancestry of the early Abercrombie families in America is (1) direct links to the Chester County, Pennsylvania area, (2) Quaker roots and/or "nominal" Quaker connections and (3) indications of neutrality during the Revolutionary War and/or being friendly with Loyalists. Some of the men friendly to the Abercrombies were hanged for being British Loyalists. A recorded Abercrombie marriage to a Loyalist family member is included in the early marriage records during this period. In fact, James Abercrombie (1740-1819) was close to being hanged himself for his conduct and/or his Loyalist associations during the Revolutionary War. The Quakers burial markers normally did NOT shown the name of the person buried...only his initials and date of death. James Abercrombie's (1740-1819) burial marker shows JAC Dec. 8, 1819. JAC apparently indicated "J"ames "A"ber"C"rombie. To be continued...
