In 1896 Clemeth Abercrombie (1822 Hall Co., GA - 1907 Mitchell Co., KS) wrote a letter to a grandson in response to a question about his ancestry. He gave the full names and dates of birth of himself, wife and children, and said his father's name was John and his mother's name was Fanny Cavender. He said his grandfather's name was James and he didn't remember his grandmother's name, but "she was a dutch." He said his great grandfather "came from Scotland Eng."

So, if John's mother was Mary Ann Beck and a "dutch," does that mean she had ancestry from Holland or Germany or something else? Were any of the Quakers of Laurens Co., SC of Dutch ancestry? And does this mean she was not full blood Cherokee? Is the name Beck German or Dutch?

If anyone would like a copy of the letter, let me know. I only have a copy of the original. I also have a photo of Clemeth and Emeline, if anyone would like a copy.
